MEERUT: A 10-year-old boy survived after falling on an exposed iron rod at a construction site in Mirzapur village in Bulandshahr on Saturday, with villagers cutting the rod at the spot, doctors stabilising him at the district hospital, and surgeons later removing it in Delhi. The accident happened when Rishabh Kumar went into an under-construction building to retrieve a cricket ball and slipped, causing the rod to pierce his chest and emerge from his neck.Rishabh, son of Raj Kumar, an electrician, had been playing with other children when the ball went inside the structure. As he entered to fetch it, he lost balance and fell on a pillar with the exposed rod. Family and villagers rushed to the spot and found him pinned by the metal rod. His mother, Anita Devi, said, "We heard Rishabh's screams and rushed to the spot. It was a horrifying sight." Locals then used a gas cutter to trim the rod so that he could be moved and taken to the district hospital, where doctors gave him initial treatment. Doctors there said the rod had not pierced any vital organ or artery, which gave them time to refer him for specialised surgery. He was later shifted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. The operation lasted more than three hours, during which surgeons removed the rod. Doctors said the boy lost very little blood and remained conscious and responsive throughout the treatment. He is now stable and out of danger.
